Sideman & Bancroft LLP is proud to announce that Monica C. Mazzei, Kelly J. Shindell, Simone M. Katz-O’Neill and Cindy E. Tate have been selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as 2013 Northern California Rising Stars. Each year, less than two and a half percent of lawyers receive the Rising Star designation.

Ms. Mazzei focuses her practice exclusively on family law and specializes in dissolution actions involving complicated valuation and financial matters and complex community property and support issues. She counsels clients regarding custody and paternity matters and negotiates and drafts premarital and postmarital agreements, and represents clients through the litigation process and mediation.

Ms. Shindell concentrates her practice on complex family law matters involving stock option apportionment, property characterization, business valuation, spousal and child support, and highly contentious child custody disputes. She is a Certified Family Law Specialist and has extensive experience assisting clients through all phases of litigation both before private judges and in the public courthouse. In addition to being a litigator, Ms. Shindell drafts and negotiates premarital and postmarital agreements and enjoys creatively advising her clients in mediation and settlement negotiations.

Ms. Katz-O’Neill focuses her practice primarily on domestic and international trademark prosecution and counseling, including trademark availability, clearance, and the prosecution of U.S. trademark applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office; the enforcement of trademark rights and the negotiation of trademark disputes and settlements; and copyright counseling, registration and enforcement. She has advised clients in a variety of industries, including the food and wine, clothing, medical device, art, consumer electronics, computer software, and e-commerce industries.

Ms. Tate concentrates her practice on estate planning, including counseling non-traditional and blended families. She works with clients on tailoring their specific estate plan to minimize estate and gift tax liability and to accomplish their goals. Ms. Tate also counsels clients with regard to business succession planning.

Ms. Mazzei, Ms. Shindell, Ms. Katz-O’Neill and Ms. Tate were selected for this honor by peer nominations, a blue-ribbon panel review and independent research of candidates. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

This is the first year that Ms. Katz-O’Neill and Ms. Tate were selected for this list. Ms. Mazzei has been named to the list each year since 2011 and Ms. Shindell each year since 2009.
