Travis Thompson comments for MLex US Tax Watch

Bridget Roberts, the Internal Revenue Service’s acting National Taxpayer Advocate, plans to launch a videoconference pilot program for the arm of the agency that helps taxpayers resolve concerns and recommends changes in agency-wide operations and tax law…

Travis Thompson, an attorney with Sideman & Bancroft LLP, said there are security and other protocols the advocate service could learn from Appeals and apply to its program. He said rolling out a videoconference program would be a “great idea” for TAS. Adding the videoconferences would allow the service to reach taxpayers in rural areas it might struggle to reach now, he said. “It will help improve customer service.”
