January 10, 2020 (San Francisco) – Sideman & Bancroft Europe announced today the opening of an office in Paris, extending the offerings of the firm’s Brand Integrity and Innovation Group (BIIG) to clients throughout the European Union. Led by Béatrice Martinet and leveraging the firm’s deep bench of experienced lawyers, global security professionals, and brand protection experts in the United States, Sideman & Bancroft Europe will advise clients on a range of traditional intellectual property and brand protection matters as well as gray market investigations and enforcement, global investigation management, online anti-counterfeit monitoring, and global customs advice and program development.
“Establishing a presence in the European market is a logical extension of our brand protection services,” said Jeff Hallam, Sideman & Bancroft’s managing partner and a leading member of BIIG. “Our clients are global businesses with global brand protection considerations, and their focus right now is on Europe. We’re excited to be on the ground to help them develop brand protection strategies targeted to their particular situations within the context of the broader business environment.”
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is currently the top global jurisdiction for trademark filings and Sideman & Bancroft’s specialty areas – technology, consumer goods, apparel, beauty and personal care, food and beverage, automotive, and pharmaceuticals – consistently lead individual European countries to land among the top ten trademark, design, and patent filings worldwide.
“I have seven years’ experience collaborating with my colleagues in the U.S. on our clients’ global brand protection issues,” said Béatrice Martinet, Sideman & Bancroft Europe’s managing partner. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with them while developing our footprint in France, and beyond.”
Béatrice joined Sideman & Bancroft in 2013 after practicing intellectual property law for 10 years in France at two large global law firms: Salans (now Dentons) and Bird & Bird. She graduated with honors from the University of Paris II and Libera Università Degli Studi Sociali in Rome. She is fluent in French, English and Italian, and is conversant in Spanish.
“Béatrice is uniquely positioned to lead this effort in Europe,” commented BIIG partner Kelly McCarthy. “I know our clients across industries will find her experience and insight into their brand protection issues incredibly valuable.”
